The matting plant includes the traditional hand looms and modern semi-automatic looms. The traditional hand looms were once the back bone of the coir industry. Before the introduction of semi-automatic looms and power looms, hand looms were the only way to manufacture the mats.  A large number of workers are depending on handlooms.

At present FOMIL have various widths of handlooms ranging from 1mtr, 1.5mtr, 2mtr, to 4mtr hand looms. The matting plant also includes semi-automatic looms. 8 numbers of semiautomatic looms are working in the matting plant. The semiautomatic loom can also be considered as mechanized handlooms. The introduction of semiautomatic looms has increased the productivity of the matting plant. It provides employment for women also. A variety of designs can be produced from the semi-automatic looms.
